AFB02. GI and Health

This class is week two of the AIM For Balance 12 week Program, but it can be taken seperately.  During this class clients will learn what foods to put back in to their bodies for maximum health and energy, finding how many calories are needed per day and coming up with a good menu plan.  We will also find out about the glycemic index.

What is the Glycemic Index (GI)

The Glycemic Index or GI ranks carbohydrate-rich foods according to their effect on blood glucose levels.  It signifies how quickly a food triggers a rise in blood glucose (sugar).  The higher the number, the greater the response.

The GI is based on 50 grams of carbohydrate in a particular food, NOT 50 grams of that food. Some foods would have to be eaten in large quantities to be tested.

Example-5 cups of cauliflower = 50 grams of carbohydrates.  You will see it listed as insignificant carbohydrate source

During this class we will discuss what the glycemic index is, how certain factors can affect the GI of a food and how that can affect our blood sugar levels.

We will also go over a healthy eating plan that will nourish our body and boost metabolism.  We will determine calorie intake by looking at daily activity level, age, and current weight.  You will choose a daily exchange plan that is best for you, that will ensure enough calories to sustain you, yet help you lose weight.

Class fees are $15.00 per person per class in a group setting or $20.00 per person per class as a private class and requires a reservation.  Class price could change without notice.
