Hand Washing Awareness
Published
Good hygiene is as essential to health as diet and exercise. It protects us from germs and disease. You may wonder why we have the need to speak of something so elementary as washing your hands after using the bathroom, but you would be amazed at how many adults do not think it is necessary to wash their hands after urinating. We need to keep spreading the word to protect others as well as ourselves. It is vital to keep hands sanitary and clean.
Germs are everywhere, and we are reminded about that every time we go through a cold and flu season. There is coughing and sneezing everywhere. Cold and flu viruses are spread through contact with hands and surfaces. From the hands and fingernails, germ can enter the body through the mouth, nasal passage or the corner of the eyes. Here is “Hand Washing 101”, wet the hands with warm water, apply plenty of soap, rub and scrub all surfaces for fifteen to thirty seconds, rinse well and dry your hands on a clean towel. This is basic but very necessary. Do it as often as needed. It is necessary to wash your hands before and after food preparation, before and after you insert and remove contact lenses, after handling money, changing a diaper, handling garbage and shopping at the supermarket. Wash your hands when they are dirty and BEFORE eating, DO NOT cough into your hands, DO NOT sneeze into your hands and DO NOT put your fingers into your eyes, nose or mouth.
Protect yourself and others by practicing proper hygiene. It is also important to supply your immune system with adequate amount of nutrients that promote proper immune function. Building a diet around whole foods, drinking eight glasses of pure water daily, and using AIM supplements will nourish cells to be their best.
