Safe Toys and Gifts
Published
Christmastime is a very festive time of year when the beauty of the tree and all the lights fill the home with holiday joy. Families get together for a scrumptious dinner with all their holiday favorites. It is also a time when kids are making their wish list for Santa and people are busy gift shopping and hunting down the best deals. While it is nice to save some money, it is also wise to pay close attention to the safety of the toys and gifts being purchased. Look out for the toys and gifts that has a risk of lead poisoning, choking and strangulation hazard and items that contains toxic chemicals. It is also important to buy age appropriate toys as toys meant for older children can be harmful to younger ones.
Children are still at risk for lead poisoning from putting unsafe toys in their mouth for an extended period of time. Lead is one of the most toxic metal contaminants known. Even at low levels, lead can accumulate in the body and can be absorbed from the blood into other tissues where it can build up over time. Children absorb more lead than adults do and their symptoms are more severe. Symptoms of lead poisoning include muscle weakness, anxiety, confusion, chronic fatigue, diarrhea, insomnia, learning disabilities, loss of appetite and seizures. Lead poisoning can eventually lead to blindness, loss of memory, mental disturbances, even coma and death. Pay close attention to warning labels, which mean the toys or gifts can be dangerous. The good news is that there are still plenty of safe toys and gifts to choose from.
Remember to pay close attention to the gifts you receive as well. We want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for a wonderful year of celebrating health and wellness together. Building a diet around whole foods, drinking eight glasses of pure water daily, and using AIM supplements will nourish cells to be their best.
